The Internet’s First Love Captured in An Egg: Pesto Eggs
You’ve heard of green eggs and ham, scrambled eggs, hard-boiled eggs, soft boiled eggs, poached eggs, steamed eggs and even Korea’s beloved soy-marinated eggs. But have you heard of Tik Tok’s pesto eggs? That’s right, you read this right.

The green, herbal, tangy favour of pesto being cooked into an egg is the Internet, or specifically Tok Tok’s latest concoction and has garnered a strong cult following of food connoisseurs on the Internet who swear by this dish.
This recipe has taken the internet by storm with its strong flavour and has been eaten with bagels, baguettes, tortillas and just by itself because it’s just that good. It’s so simple and tasty, it can be eaten as lunch, breakfast or dinner, a snack, or even as a supper meal by itself.
This recipe is very simple -- the eggs cook in the olive oil in the pesto and are fried as usual. This gives the eggs a complex, acidic and tangy flavour which tastes even better with chilli flakes or cayenne pepper to give it a smoky taste.
The Tik Tok recipe in question can be found here:
The Tik Tok user shows himself spreading the pesto sauce on a hot pan to warm it and get the oil hot so that the egg wouldn’t stick. He then cracks two eggs on top of the pesto sauce, and fries it like he would a normal egg, and adds seasoning (salt, pepper, cumin) to it.
In the sequel in his adventures cooking the pesto eggs, the Tik Tok user prepares some guacamole to be eaten as a sandwich together with the pesto egg concoction.
Before laying the egg on the muffin sandwich, he intended to spread some creme fraiche on the sandwich bread, but it turned out to be mouldy so the idea was ditched.
He proceeds to spread the guacamole he prepared on the sandwich bread, lays the eggs on the toasted bread, and sprinkles a bit of feta cheese on it for an extra kick of flavour and finishes the sandwich with chilli sauce.
This recipe by itself is very simple and requires very little cooking time. However, to make this recipe even tastier than it already is, here are some tips for you to improve this recipe from the heavens.
Scramble The Eggs
You know it, just get a non-stick pan, some butter, eggs and scramble those eggs with your pastor sauce. For a creamier texture, add some mayo, sour cream or creme fraiche into your pot of scrambled eggs and mix well.
Add Some Herbs
Rosemary, dill, oregano, you name it. Any of these herbs are a good complement to these pesto eggs and add an extra layer of flavours to these eggs. For better results, roast the herbs in an oven to create a more robust, smoky flavour which pairs wonderfully well with these pesto eggs
Roasted Garlic
Roasted garlic is yet another blessing from the heavens above, and is an extremely versatile flavour to match almost any food. This is an extremely simple ingredient to make -- simply cut the heads off some garlic calves, drizzle with olive oil, and roast in an air fryer or an oven for about 8 minutes at 200 degrees. The result is a smooth, smoky, garlicky paste that can be used as a bread spread with the pesto eggs.
Use Bacon
Bacon is a lovely cut of meat which adds a nice, smoky flavour to many things it’s cooked with. Bacon oil adds a slightly sweet, caramelized flavour to whatever it’s cooked together with, frying some bacon first, and then adding the pesto sauce, and then the eggs is a wonderful way to add an extra oomph to the already extremely flavourful eggs.
