We rarely think of the world’s top designers as originating from Singapore, but these five internationally-renowned fashionistas will prove you wrong. Here are the five top Singapore fashion designers that have made their mark around the world.
1. Benny Ong

Benny Ong is Singapore’s most famous designer, and this claim can be bolstered with his list of high-profile clients including the Duchess of Kent, Queen Noor of Jordan and the late Princess Diana. If you ever find yourself in Manhattan, take the chance to check out his lines which are available at upmarket stores Saks Fifth Avenue and Bergdorf Goodman.
2. Priscilla Shunmugam

Best known for creating modern and wearable interpretations of traditional wear, Priscilla Shunmugam proves that you don’t have to save the cheongsam, sari or samfu for just festive seasons. With her mission to transform the way we think about Asia’s history in modern times, she is also acknowledged as one of the most original homegrown fashion labels in Singapore.
3. Carolyn Kan

Originally working as a managing editor at M&C Saatchi, Carolyn Kan quit her high-profile job and decided to pursue her passion for fashion. After her meeting with a silversmith in Italy, Kan was inspired to launch her own jewelry line and did so with Carrie K in 2009. She eventually went on to design jewelry in the Disney movie Alice Through The Looking Glass.
4. Ashley Isham

This talented fashion designer boasts an impressive clientele with the likes of Kylie Minogue, Christina Aguilera and Lady Gaga. Having risen to fame in London for his contemporary classics, Isham’s boutiques are all in London but he continues to collaborate with numerous Singapore designers and brands.
5. Hayden Ng

At the age of 16, Hayden Ng had already made a name for himself as a successful fashion designer in Singapore. In 1987, he started designing for Miss Singapore Universe Marion Nicole Teo, and went on to start the ASEAN Fashion Designers Showcase. Later in 2019, he was also respected the Fashion Design Award by Silk Road International for his fashion design works.
